We had a surprise visit this weekend from friends we've not seen for ages - all bit impromptu and unplanned which definitely put a stop to me faffing about with work stuff, which was great!
We hired a little boat out for the afternoon and went out on the river with an instant picnic and a few bottles of beer - bliss!
The 'boys' quickly took charge of the piloting...
...while we admired the scenery and took photos...
This is a really pretty, tranquil stretch of the river and you don't have to go far before you feel you have the river to yourselves.
Lovely skies...
The odd sailing boat...
and the company of lovely friends...
One nice thing about the Norfolk Broads and waterways is that there are many riverside pubs along the way that you can moor up near and stroll along to. First stop was Geldeston Lock...
Suddenly the place seemed a whole lot busier and when we finally found a place to tie up our little boat (after much frivolity!) we wandered across to find there was a little festival event on (Lockfest!). It sounded fun, if you were there for the day, with live music and lots of chilling in the gardens but at £5 per head (given that we really only wanted a pint and a wee!) we decided for 5 of us that was an expensive stop!
So back to the boat...
...and on up the river.
A heron kept flying ahead of us up the river and then waiting on the bank for us...
When they spread their wings you realise how enormous they are...
We spotted a family of ducks...mummy duck with pretty feathers and a whole brood of very cute babies (too many and too fast moving to count!).
Our next mooring found us walking past a lovely and very fragrant wild rose...
Another fragrant plant that smelt a bit like honeysuckle but completely different flowers...
...to a welcome watering hole...
Isn't this a beautiful rose in the pub garden?
Favourite things of the day... lots of laughing, the sounds and smells of the river, warm sunshine on your skin...oh, and my lovely god-daughter's funky sandals!
Thought it was time to update my profile pic too!
Hope you all had lovely weekends too, til next time
Sx
Now that is a day out I could go for. That flower that smells like honeysuckle....we call it mock orange, I love it, I used to have one in the home I owned and would cut it and put it around the house along with jasmine, made the house smell so nice and fresh.
