peonies and poorly trees...

You'll be pleased to know I've calmed down now! No more ranting, for now anyway...

Just had to show you the peony from my back garden...

This is a serious show-off of a flower! There are a few more buds on it yet so, in spite of the dry weather, this is probably the most blooms I've had on this plant.

On a less happy note - is anyone any good at tree problems? We have a crab-apple tree which looked lovely earlier when it was covered in blossom and is beginning to set fruit but Something Nasty seems to be happening to it!

The leaves seems to have developed these bright red patches, on the back first then eventually seems to cover the whole leaf. The affected branches look as though they are dying :-(

Oh dear. Not pretty. I've tried looking it up but can't work out what it is and so don't really know what to do about it. I'm not really into chemicals but don't want it to spread to the plum tree next to it. Any clever gardeners out there that can identify it? I'm wondering if we should just cut our losses and cut the tree down?

I had to go and have a cheer up cup of tea after that! I found this stripy mug in the arthritis charity shop yesterday. At £1 it probably wasn't the cheapest charity shop buy but I liked it and the lady at the till had such terribly painful looking hands that I wanted to buy something!!

Its been Hot here again today - this must have been one of the few moments when the sun wasn't shining! Still no rain!

Til next time,

Sx

  1. I popped here from the Hen House to say hello! Your peony is magnificent but I'm afraid I can't help you with your poor tree not being knowledgable enough about such matters. Its really nice here and I'd like to follow but your Followers appear to have disappeared. I'll come back and try another day. Nice to meet you. penny

  3. goegeous peony - mine never grew. Poor tree ! Looks like a fungus or an insect. I'd ask at my local garden centre - I have a small honeysuckle which comes up beautifully then the leaves look as though someone has scribbled on them & a Virburnum which gets blackfly & leaf curl !
That mug is lovely enjoy !
