April photo scavenger hunt

I can't believe April has been and gone already!

I have found this months photos something of a challenge - first to decide what to take pics of and get time to take them and then I ended up with several different versions and couldn't decide which to post!!

Anyway, thanks again to Kathy for the inspiration and here goes...

The list this month was:

  • a church
  • a cross
  • a sculpture
  • a set of keys
  • an interesting shop name
  • April Showers
  • breakfast
  • eggs
  • something to do with Shakespeare
  • something to mark St George's Day
  • something yellow
  • your camera

A church
I have taken soooo many photos of churches this month!! There are some grand churches and some really pretty little ones around here and I had a job to decide which one to use, but this is a large church in the centre of Norwich which I have never really looked at from this angle before. And I love the lamp-post and the red phone box! Not many phone boxes left now - when was the last time you used one? I can't remember when I last needed to use a phone box, must be years ago.

A cross
Again...dithered a bit about this photo! I don't think its the best photo and it nearly lost out to the cross on the village war memorial, but I was struck by the simplicity of this little wooden cross in this beautiful churchyard full of bluebells and headstones. This was at the church I posted a pic of here - this church nearly made it to be my church photo! And exciting for me - I have a wedding to go to at the end of May at this church; my friend Kathy and her man, Will! Our very own Will & Kate wedding! Imagine it will be a rather smaller affair...

A sculpture
Originally, I had this one taped early in the month from the country fair at Sandringham where we saw chainsaw sculpture - not normally my thing but they were really intricate works of art and I was taken with a lifesize stag... But then I picked son 2 up from Chesterfield, Derbyshire to come home from uni for the Easter hols and saw this giant apple outside Chesterfield football ground...so random! Love it!

A set of keys
You have no idea how much trouble I have had with this one!!! Only managed to get this one today. I have the dullest set of car keys and couldn't think how to make them more interesting. Thought of keyboard but Lucy over at Tete en L'Air had already done a great photo of that; thought of piano keys at my Mum's but didn't manage to get there... Then today, suddenly thought of Allen keys! Bit tenuous maybe???!

Interesting shop name
Well...not so much interesting necessarily, but amused us! On the Trip to Derbyshire, went to look at the place where son 2 is going to do a work placement year next year - this shope was in a little village called Melbourne a couple of miles from where he will be. We both, rather childishly, got a fit of the giggles snapping this!

April Showers
As several others have said - there have been very few April showers! To be honest, Norfolk could do with a few as the ground is already very dry. Overnight would be fab, with nice sunny days in between...

My breakfast
I'm feeling a bit sheepish about this one as so many people have posted pictures of their lovely healthy looking breakfasts... In my defence, this was also on the trip to Derbyshire and I had left Norfolk at 3.30 am to get there, do the necessary driving around all the places S wanted to show me, ready to head home again the same afternoon. I'm not normally much of a breakfast person at all and have to make a conscious effort to eat it (I completely forgot this morning!) but, believe me, after being up for 5 hours and driving for 3 1/2 - a bacon butty and a cup of tea just hit the spot!!!

Eggs
Pretty basket of eggs at a local craft fair.

Something to do with Shakespeare
Hoping to get to one of these with son 1 - if I can get tickets! Apparently they go like hot cakes!

Something to mark St George's Day
Pub down the road always goes a bit to town for St George's Day - something to do with the name I guess! - this year they have loads of flags up, all round the car park as well as the pub. Probably because of a certain high profile event in London on the 29th April...!!!

This is a bit of a cheat cos this is not my 'official' yellow photo! There is masses of rapeseed in the fields around us this year! I have a bit of a love-hate relationship with it - they are pretty flowers but it is so bright on a sunny day it almost makes your eyes ache! The smell is really heady especially in the evenings. I'm sure its a good and valuable crop but before they cut it it smells something akin to rotten cabbage and there always seem to be hundreds of little black flies around! Looking forward to that!! This was going to be my yellow photo but several others have used it so, in the end, I went for these pretty Doronicums (Leopard's Bane) which is flowering  merrily in my garden at the moment...

Something yellow
And last, but not least... my camera...

This was a freebie with son 2's laptop a few years ago and is not very flash at all but I have been able to get some reasonable shots with it. The biggest problem I have with it is that although you can choose some settings it has auto focus and something focuses on something other than that which I intend! Some of my photos are taken with S's Olympus SLR - I am definitely leaning towards begging for my own more advance camera for my birthday!

Good challenge again Kathy! Looking forward to May's!!!

Just a quick note about what else I've been up to in the last few days... mostly working, which is not of great interest, hence no great excitement about 'The Wedding' on here. I saw snippets yesterday as I did my home visits - don't get me wrong, I'm very happy for them; they look as though they are marrying for the right reasons, she looked elegant and beautiful and the whole event was uplifting, I'm sure. Its just that on the scale of my day to day life, it didn't feature very highly...

What I have been tring to do is squeeze in a bit of crochet to finish these granny squares for Sarah London's Crochet a Rainbow appeal...

The colours are a bit mixed as I am just trying to use up all my odds and ends but I hope they will be able to make use of them. I'm up to 20 so far and hoping to get them posted off to Australia this week!

Have just realised it is now well into May 1st! So, will love you and leave you... have some pics of my garden to share but will leave those for anther day!!!

Have a lovely May Day bank holiday, til next time,

Sx

  1. Your scavenger hunt photos are great, you've inspired me to have a go at it this month myself!

And your granny squares are putting mine to shame - I really need to pull my finger out and do some more, or at least post the ones I've got!
